Dr. Suheel Rasool Mir is a Senior Research Fellow working on the Borderlands of Kashmir, Ethnicity and Sociology of Margins and Marginalization. He is a postgraduate in Sociology, Department of Sociology, University of Kashmir. He completed his M.Phil in 2017. After his M.Phil, he continued with Ph.D. from the same department with effect from Feb, 2017-Aug, 2021. His M.Phil Dissertation “Reservation Policies and Social Justice: A Study of Dard Tribe of Gurez” is on Dard-Shina tribe of Gurez Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. He has published 40 Research Papers/ Articles in reputed journals/national Newspapers including International Sociological Association, The Telegraph, Outlook and Economic and Political Weekly. Besides publications, his books include Sociological Inquiry of Justice: Exploring the Dards of Gurez Valley and Identity Erosion of Dards under the Making of Nation States. He has presented more than 50 Research papers in International and National conferences in reputed institutions like Lund University Sweden, Hamburg University Germany, University College London, Maynooth University Ireland, Aarhus University Denmark, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indian Institute of Social Sciences (ISS), Hyderabad Central University, Delhi University, and Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) etc. He has supervised programmes regarding the empowerment of Dard tribe of Gurez. The motivation for a sociological and anthropological understanding of Dard tribe came from the work that he has been doing in the Gurez, Drass-Kargil and Leh.
